Newquay
lions and www.joeway.co.uk and the events team of the hotel had a great night
event which Matt and Claire Way attended. The charity night featured a Casino,
Jazz music, Auctions, raffle as well as door prizes and a fantastic VIP buffet.
The auction raised over £700 including £100 for Matt (Joes Dad) who will be
cleaning and ironing to earn this donation.
The evening also had the launch of the Precious lives and Joe bags for life
which at £10 per bag raised another £150 on top of the total.
The event at The Glendorgal Resort and Spa raised £1731.35 which was split
between children in need and the precious Lives appeal donated in memory of Joe
Way.
The proceeds will be split between Children in need, Newquay Lions and the Joe
Way Appeal for Precious Lives.
Eco friendly Bedruthan Steps Hotel had two reasons to celebrate on the 17th
November - not only did the hotel sweep the board at the Cornwall Tourism Awards
but their highly successful conference & events venue turned three years old.
Directors and staff from the hotel treated business guests to a delicious
dinner, drinks and games evening to say a big thank you to their loyal customers
who have supported them over the last three years, and to welcome in new ones.
At the birthday dinner, a reward scheme for existing clients was launched to
encourage local businesses to continue holding events at Bedruthan during the
current economic climate. The scheme includes rewards such as free AV equipment,
discounts off spa treatments and when spending over a certain amount delegates
can receive one of several freebies including a free stay for two or even a free
consultation from our resident Sustainability Manager.
After dinner guests took a chance in Bedruthan’s charity raffle and raised £120
for the Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal, a charity
dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives in the county.

It
was her first time at a Creative Memories’ Album Making workshop and new
customer Abby was inspired to donate her sponsor money from a 10k run she was
about to do, to the Joe Way appeal. Through the rain she completed her run and
raised a wonderful £60.00. In true style she was back at the next workshop and
produced a double page of her efforts!!
Creative Memories Consultant Doreen Goldstone said “Due to one thing and
another, I was unable to be very active within my CM interests since the
Conference in September. But I was absolutely inspired to do something after
watching Joe Way’s video”.
Last week, time was running out before setting off on holiday on Wednesday of
this week. . . So last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening were free and
action was needed. I pinned the Joe poster to the front of an A4 envelope, made
up a little patter of –
"Good Evening." "I am sorry to bother your, but I have been absolute over
whelmed and inspired to collect for the building of a new Children’s Hospice by
the story of little Joe Way who died in May aged just 4 years old" .
I then talked about going to the CM conference and seeing the video clips of his
amazing battles, his life and funeral, and told them that when the lights went
up all 250 delegates were in tears and grabbing tissues we were so moved by his
story.
"So, here I am, asking if you will kindly donate, but I will understand if you
do not want to."
I was out for two hours each evening, had only 3 refusals, all kindly explained
and now have a cheque ready for £120.
Unit Leader Eleanor Beal in Kent said “As a Team, we have been fundraising all
month. We have held a 24 hour sponsored album making/crop - sponsor money is not
all in yet, but we think this comes to approx £200. Our month long raffle has
raised another £245.00 and an auction at my workshop raised £75.00 we have had
great fun”.
Lynne Vowles Said “I have £40, but I am continuing into November as family
commitments changed my plans. I hope to get it up to £100!
Sian Hendra and Vicky Smedley from Creative Memories (In Bath and Swindon
respectively), travelled to Newquay during half term to hold a party at Joe’s
Parents house along with Barbara Sharples Joe’s grandmother.
The party guests included one of the owners and staff from Hendra, nurses who
cared for Joe as well as Claire and Barbara.
The sales were a staggering £1019.38, and with other fundraising on the night
including the girls giving 10% of their commission, they raised £159.61 which
brings the total for Sian’s Team to £688.01 so far and still coming!
Sian said “It was such a privilege to spend the evening with this very special
family, preserve some memories through photos and raise money for Joe’s appeal.”
Lizzie Williams, Creative Memories Consultant in Worthing, West Sussex, added
£102.00. Lizzie said “Well done to ‘The Scrappy Doos’ (her Creative Memories
Team name!) for raising money from holding raffles, coffee mornings and parties
for the Joe Way charity
Geraldine Hill sent the following e-mail to her Team: “My gosh what a fabulous
group of Consultants you are ... when I totalled all the monies collected in on
Saturday, which included an amount left over from the fees for the day, it was
an amazing £1,003.70 - how fantastic is that”. Geraldine’s Team total is just
over £1300 now so that will be £650 each to her 2 Charities)
Each of the consultants at the workshop who appeared on the fundraising list,
held their own raffles / sold lucky squares etc. with their customers and then
brought the monies raised plus their customer details to enter into a Team Draw
on Saturday.
Consultants were able to put a ticket in the team draw if their customers ....
gave a Christmas wish list in October, bought any products that contained pink,
spent over £25, booked a party or agreed to a coffee & chat. Customer tickets
could only be given if the consultant raised monies which were added to the team
pot!
Geraldine also had a separate draw for the consultants who supported my
fundraising efforts.
Susan Brewerton collected sponsorship monies to scrapbook for 8 hours on the day
and did a tag box at the recent unit meeting.
Geraldine’s personal contribution of money was raised by a lucky square raising
£50, raffle events at all her workshops/parties in October and she raffled off a
CM album stand (much sought after!!) on Saturday - this alone raised £73! Plus
all her customers who enjoyed one of the special offers were charged an extra £1
per item to add to the charity box, with their agreement of course.
Linda Gransby produced swatches of the new Creative Memories paper packs and
sold these for £41 She raised £45 on the day.
Geraldine Hill Senior Director Dunstable said: “I had hoped for around £500 but
gosh being able to give this amount to each of our two supporting charities is
just amazing. So, my thanks to ALL My Team and our Customers for getting behind
the Team & Creative Memories’ BIG MONTH and fundraising for such worthwhile
causes”. (Precious Lives Appeal and Breast Cancer)
