Band performing at Surfstock Newquay, CornwallWe attended Saturday’s event through the day highlighting Joe’s story and hoping people will be inspired to read his website and to enjoy the chance to win two fantastic prizes.

We ran a lucky number draw for £2 per chance to wine a Co cola exclusive surfboard and a kid’s petrol quad. The Draw also ran at Hendra as well as one of Joe’s nurses Laura selling numbers at The Dolphin restaurant for us as well

The quad was donated by Alistair and Ken who own “Bridge End Garage” in Wadebridge.

Ken Lane said “we are lucky to be in a position not to need the hospice for our own families and cannot image how difficult it must without this facility which Cornwall needs”

Local Newquay girl Kelly Scullion was over the moon to win the Quad bike and we where amazed when she said “It’s for a really good cause and as much as like the quad I really want to help Joes website so I’m donating the bike back for another event”.

Holtridge Family Day raises £150

Holtridge Family DayOn Sunday August 17th Claire’s mum and dad, Joe & Barbara held a family day at Holtridge, Cheshire.  Unbelievably the sun shone! Over 60 members of Claire’s family gathered together. There was great food, plenty of wine, good conversation, fun and games. It was lovely for Megan and Finn to spend time with great grandparents Joe and Mavis, to meet new cousins, and to get re acquainted with family they don’t see very often. Family travelled from as far as Scotland to be at the day. A raffle was held to raise funds for Joe’s appeal raising £150.00. Barbara, Joe and Claire would like to thank all family and friends for their kind donations to the appeal, so far raising £3000.00. Family have held coffee mornings, sold home made jams, donated a days pay and much more! More events are planned over the coming months.

Great Grandad Mac raises £500 for Joe WayJust four weeks after Joe died, his great grandad Mac also passed away.

A week before Mac died he and great grandma Pam made a personal donation of £200.00 in memory of Joe to ‘The Precious Lives Appeal’.

It was great grandma Pam’s decision to request donations rather than flowers in memory of Mac to be paid into Joe’s Flower Fund for ‘The Precious Lives Appeal’.

We remember Mac with great affection and thank Pam and all family and friends for their generosity – a total of £500.00 was donated in his memory.

With much love and thanks,
Grandson Matt, Claire and Great Grandchildren, Megan, Joe and Finn xxx

Ripcurl Boardmasters raises £400

Ripcurl Boardmaster Festival Newquay CornwallJoe’s nurses and Hendra staff collected £400 at the Ripcurl Boardmasters at the Final on Sunday 10th August.

Sports Vision & Ripcurl agreed to support the website by allowing a team of two nurses Claire and Katie (who both nursed Joe) as well as three Hendra staff Oz, Martin and Katie to collect in the event area and along the beach.

Although the day started sunny there where also rainy moments. The beach lifeguards also announced over the speaker system who they where collecting for and said a bit about Joe which was greatly appreciated and really helped.

They where wearing a www.Joeway.co.uk t-shirt as official collectors moving around the crowds, having a good time and spreading the word.

The guys did really well and collected £100 per hour, well done…

The rain meant that everyone left the beach at the same time which created gridlock and after trying to get back for one and a half hours they eventually got picked up by Tuk-Tuk who brought them back Matt and Claries.

Allie and Louis Mavor raise £80 on line with a 40 mile bike ride

Allie and Louiis on their bikes! The date was the 10th August 2008 Allie (Joe’s joint agency worker) and her son Louis completed a 40 mile sponsored bike ride in aid of the Precious Lives appeal in memory of Joe Way. Allie said “We are doing it in memory of a little chap called Joe Way who sadly died in May this year. Joe’s parents have set up a website in his memory and are continuing to raise funds for the Precious Lives appeal. Joe was always too poorly to benefit from going to Little Bridge House, but his parents are keen to ensure that other families will be able to benefit from a hospice in Cornwall”.

They completed the bike ride and where both exhausted! The wind was in their faces all the way along the north cliffs to Hayle, but a Mars bar break at Hell's mouth cheered them up (some of us are easily pleased.......). They enjoyed a lovely route back inland with lots of sign posts so they didn't get lost.....A group of about 20 did it so they had plenty of company - Louis was the first one back to Perran!

They also cycled to the start so that added an extra 7 miles. We think Allie looks like Angelina Jolie. Thank you so much x
