Slimming world raises £1233.00 for Precise Lives in memory of Joe Way

The event which was at the Penventon Park Hotel in Redruth had a full house of 200 people which created a fantastic atmosphere.

Lesley, Pauline Chappell and Cherylyn Howard organised the event to allow slimming world members to dress up in some elegant clothes.

Lesley said “Between us we run 10 groups and all the models were from those groups which are held in Truro, Falmouth, Mount Hawke, Redruth Camborne, Illogan and Hayle”.

The compare for the night Dean Woods played to the crowd but delivered the message of why Cornwall deserves a children’s hospice and the inspiring story of Joe Way who Dean knew very well.

Claire (Joe’s mum) and Megan aged 7 (Joes sister) where also invited to take part in the wedding section. Megan said “It was great to wear the pretty dresses and be a model for the night”

The new Joe’s Story 9 minute DVD was aired at the event throughout the night and at one point a collection box went around the room and came back within 15 minutes with £113 inside.

Matt (Joes dad) said “they did an amazing job we all had a great night and already the ladies are talking about there next event in March 2009”

The day wear was from Peacocks of Redruth and the evening and bridal wear came from Carol Mann's at Redruth and Glamour & Glitz in Camborne.

All the exhibitors on the evening are also members of Slimming World as well as photos being taken all night by Kernow Natural Light Photography

The slimming World Charity Ball will be on Friday 20th March 2009 at the Green Lawns Hotel, Falmouth. There will be 200 tickets on sale to our members in January at £25.00 per a head. A raffle will also be held on the evening. All proceeds from this ball will be donated to Precise Lives in memory of Joe Way.

Falmouth Oyster Company raise £167.00 for the Precious Lives appeal

The Falmouth Oyster Company and The Falmouth Bay Seafood Café are supporting www.joeway.co.uk by sponsoring the Falmouth dive banner and promoting Joes story at the Falmouth Oyster Festival.

Valerie Thomson said “Joe’s website was very moving and the banner off the Falmouth coast is great for us to be involved in, Joe’s parents where very excited with promoting their sons story at a big local event”

Claire Way (Joe’s mum) said “Joe’s website was promoted at the event along with a collection and winning oysters being auctioned off a big I would like to say a big thanks from us to Valerie and Penny”

Falmouth Oyster Festival celebrates the start of the oyster season and the diversity and quality of Cornish Seafood and in particular, one of the last remaining traditional oyster fisheries. The festival opened with a cookery master-class with a celebrity chef followed by a packed programme of cookery demonstrations by leading local chefs, oysters, seafood, wine and ale, children’s shell painting, sea shanties, town parade, live music and marquees packed with Cornish produce and crafts. The festival is a must for all oyster, seafood and marine heritage enthusiasts.

Portsmouth runners raise £500 for Cornwall’s Precious Lives Appeal

Hanna Kingston and Emma Standing are both nurses at Basingstoke and learnt about Joe through a friend Katie Garner who was one Joe’s nurses in Cornwall.

The times where for Hannah 2 hours 3 seconds and Emma was 2 hours 7 seconds, the girls had not done much training as both nurses had been as work so where very pleased with their times.

A family friend John Simmons is also ran for Joe which was the second time he has done so at the same event.

Last time John raised money so Joe could have a projector for his room.
This time sadly John was running in Joe’s memory to raise money for his website www.joeway.co.uk which aims to raise £25k towards The Precise Lives Appeal.

Johns came 103 in his age group and gender position and finished in 1 hour 28 minutes which was quicker than the last time he ran for Joe it much wetter and harder conditions.

Matt (Joe’s dad) said “ £265.00 was raised so well done to John a record time in the rain big thanks to all sponsors in Portsmouth, Carlton Club, Tring ,islington ,horsham Wales and beyond”.

When Matt (Joe’s Dad) phoned John to thank him John offered to run the London marathon next year so planning is already in progress.

Way hey...Hair dressers cut hair for Joe Way and raise £340

A HAIR salon with a namesake connection to a local charity gave up a whole day for fund-raising.

The Way Hair salon in Chester Road has decided to dedicate an entire day of hair cutting to the Joe Way Appeal – helping raise money to build a Cornish children's hospice.
While there is no family connection, the staff at the salon thought the name match was enough for them to get involved.

Gillian Bray, a stylist at the salon, said: "We like to organise fund-raiser events at least every other year and feel the Joe Way charity is very worthy, and also very close to our hearts. All of the staff here are happy to donate their time and expertise for the event – effectively working for free for the whole day."

The special day was on Monday, September 22 where the proceeds from an entire day of haircuts at the salon where donated directly to the Joe Way fund. The idea was to get in as many customers as possible" said Gillian.

Matt Joe’s Dad said “thanks to this amount we have cleared the £18,000 mark in seventeen weeks, we are really grateful that they gave a whole day up for Joe”

Creative Memories Raise Another £130...

Creative memory sales girl and proud mum Linda Flack said “This is my son Ryan. He loves being involved with my Creative Memories business.

Last weekend he enjoyed running an auction in aid of Joe Way Precious lives appeal at my team crop day.

He was very proud and amazed that his efforts raised £130 making a difference to others less fortunate than himself”

St Columb Minor Fun Day raises £514.00

St Columb Minor villagers defied wet weather back June to raise £514 for the Precise Lives appeal in memory of Joe.

The day included stalls and games including the muddy famous tug of war.

This lead into an evening of entertainment with Johnny Cowling, Newquay rowing club singers, chunky custard with a disco with Dave Prisk.

Graham Brenchley who helped organised the event said “the tug of war stood out in his mind. It turned out to be the funniest thing we had seen. Teams from St Mawgan and the yellow bellies from St Columb Minor where ready to go, but unfortunately we think the rope was not up to the job it broke on the first pull-landing everyone in the mud”

Claire Way went to the farmers Arms in St Columb Minor to pick the money up and to catch up with land lady Cheryl who has raised money with locals for Joe’s car conversion several years ago.

Claire said “It was great to see everyone even though last time I was there Joe was with us and he enjoyed lots of cuddles from everyone”

Cheryl who is also involved in slimming world is organising a fashion show to raise further funds for Precise Lives in memory of Joe.
