Two year’s after Joe Way is laid to rest his story continues.
Two years ago Balloons filled the sky above St Mawgan during a touching
farewell to a four-year-old boy whose life and happy spirits "confounded
the textbooks".
Joe Way, who was born with a rare genetic condition, was labelled a
'miracle boy' after surviving meningitis, a potentially deadly skin
reaction, and numerous superbugs as well as complete organ failure. He
died two years ago, after a rapid deterioration in health.
His website has been set up to tell his story, raise
awareness of his conditions, and to help raise money for the Children’s
Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal to build a children’s hospice
in Cornwall and supports another 20 charities mainly at the now annual
Joe Way paddle for life.
Claire Way said, “As we did last year we have again sent sunflowers to
all three wards Joe stayed on as well as HDU, ITU and his consultant Dr
Nicki Gilbertson to thank the front line staff for the job they do day
in and day out”.
The Paddle for Life started after Lifeguards from Fistral beach held a
Joe Way memorial paddle to raise money for charity.
The Newquay event will be on the evening of Thursday 23rd of September
2010.
The rules are that you must paddle some sort of craft or board and raise
money for any registered charity. If you would like to enter a new
distance or idea just contact us and we will add it to our on line form
linked to the event.
Last years paddle had nearly 100 paddlers and 200 spectators and raised
£7,000.00. This year team Joe aim to raise over £10,000.00 for over 20
charities. You can sponsor a paddler online or enter the online raffle
by donating to your chosen charity and using the Just Giving receipt
number to enter the online raffle.
Once again businesses have been generous with world class surfers such
as Newquay’s Ben Skinner and California’s Robert August putting in
prizes. ITV’s THE BILL actor Ben Richards is also supporting Joe’s
Paddle for the second year running.
Little Joe’s banner with his photo and web address has been around the
world the equivalent of six times and a global map on his website shows
the locations with photos.
The Way family have also helped a young boy from Pakistan receive
medical treatment in the UK after five year old Ali was left blind after
suffering the same skin reaction as their son.
Support has been given to other SJS suffers around the world online as
well fundraising that has benefited local and national charity’s.
The family where also gifted a headstone by a family from Wigan who saw
Joe’s story at a holiday park they where staying on. In return Scott
Dickinson, Joe’s paddle media and web designer, has built a website for
their stone masons business.
Matt, Claire and Finn where also invited by Eddie Farwell, the
co-founder of Children’s Hospice Southwest, to attend the start of the
building works for the first children’s hospice to be built in Cornwall
which the family where thrilled to attend.
Matt Way added, “We are continually amazed at peoples generosity, not
just with their donations, but the time they give to do something after
reading Joe’s story. That’s all we wanted from his website and we have
not been disappointed”.
British ranked number 2 Surfer launches new brand

Tom Butler from Newquay has just launched his new brand www.tbsurfing.com with a new
slick website and exciting logo. The website and branding has
been part of a partnership between Tom and Joe Way Paddle for
life team.
Joe’s website has raised over £82,000 for over 20 charity’s and

including Ben “Skindog” Skinner and Alan Stokes. The whole
Butler family have helped over the last two years organizing
events and supporting the Way family.
Matt Way Joe’s Dad said “This was a great opportunity to give
something back to Tom and support one of Newquay's surfers to
develop within the sport he loves. This will also give Joe’s
paddle a lot of coverage at all the surf competitions to help
bolster this annual event”.

Paddle”
Two British Men trek with toddlers inspirational story to the Arctic
Justin
Miles and John Wilton-Davies are to walk in -30°C temperatures, from the
coast of the Antarctic to the South Pole and back. Never attempted
before, if they complete the longest unsupported polar trek in history
they will win the ‘title’ for Great Britain in 2010.
Leaving in November 2010, they hope to cover the 2,200km trek in
just 77 days, taking everything they need with them with no
re-supply or help of any kind. The trek will be undertaken using
man-power alone – with nothing to make the trek easier.
John and Justin are hoping to complete The Last Great Challenge
expedition to raise a million pounds for its adopted charity the
British Heart Foundation. Adding to their already weighty, 180kg
sleds, they will also be carrying the Joe Banner, for the Joe Way
Appeal. This banner has already travelled over 238,000km, the
equivalent of six times around the world. They hope to add to this
by carrying Joe’s banner through the duration of the trek to The
South Pole, and add to the collection of amazing photographs of the
banners’ journeys.
Joe Way's banner is a way of getting his inspirational story
promoted around the world whilst giving anyone the opportunity get
involved. So far it has travelled all over the world, under the sea
and been parachuted out of a plane. Whether you are going on holiday
or exploring the arctic, the banner is only 2ft long so it’s easy to
travel with. Take a look at where the banner has been so far at

Matt Way Joe’s Dad said “We know the guys have been asked to carry
out lots of PR opportunities on their trip so we are very grateful
they have decided to take our little boys inspirational story to the
far reaches of the earth”.

www.lastgreatchallenge.com is also hoping to assist with the
Great Heart Challenge

sponsored event and health promotion exercise which will arrive in
schools around the UK in 2010.
