Joe Way Two Years onTwo years ago Balloons filled the sky above St Mawgan during a touching farewell to a four-year-old boy whose life and happy spirits "confounded the textbooks".

Joe Way, who was born with a rare genetic condition, was labelled a 'miracle boy' after surviving meningitis, a potentially deadly skin reaction, and numerous superbugs as well as complete organ failure. He died two years ago, after a rapid deterioration in health.

His website has been set up to tell his story, raise awareness of his conditions, and to help raise money for the Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal to build a children’s hospice in Cornwall and supports another 20 charities mainly at the now annual Joe Way paddle for life.

Claire Way said, “As we did last year we have again sent sunflowers to all three wards Joe stayed on as well as HDU, ITU and his consultant Dr Nicki Gilbertson to thank the front line staff for the job they do day in and day out”.

Two British Men trek with toddlers inspirational story to the Arctic

Two british men take Joes Banner to the Artic Justin Miles and John Wilton-Davies are to walk in -30°C temperatures, from the coast of the Antarctic to the South Pole and back. Never attempted before, if they complete the longest unsupported polar trek in history they will win the ‘title’ for Great Britain in 2010.

Leaving in November 2010, they hope to cover the 2,200km trek in just 77 days, taking everything they need with them with no re-supply or help of any kind. The trek will be undertaken using man-power alone – with nothing to make the trek easier.

John and Justin are hoping to complete The Last Great Challenge expedition to raise a million pounds for its adopted charity the British Heart Foundation. Adding to their already weighty, 180kg sleds, they will also be carrying the Joe Banner, for the Joe Way Appeal. This banner has already travelled over 238,000km, the equivalent of six times around the world. They hope to add to this by carrying Joe’s banner through the duration of the trek to The South Pole, and add to the collection of amazing photographs of the banners’ journeys.

Joe Way's banner is a way of getting his inspirational story promoted around the world whilst giving anyone the opportunity get involved. So far it has travelled all over the world, under the sea and been parachuted out of a plane. Whether you are going on holiday or exploring the arctic, the banner is only 2ft long so it’s easy to travel with. Take a look at where the banner has been so far at www.joeway.info/map
