Joe Way Paddle makes a splash
This year’s event saw nearly 200 paddlers of all ages and abilities taking part
in the 200m and 1km fun paddles to do their bit to raise money for some of the 20
charities now supported by the Joe Way appeal.
This years front man Karl Fice-Thomson and team organized the heats whilst entertaining
the crowds with the back up of the Lusty Glaze lifeguards, current English surf
champion Tom Butler and Nicholas Pendreich
Tom Butler who is an ambassador for the Paddle for life said “we had a great set
up with the numbered wrist bands, communication between the beach, sea and checking
in with Julia was spot on, Will from Lusty Glaze did a great job keeping us informed
which enabled us to have another safe and fun event”.
Once again local businesses and charities Perranporth signs, Hutton hire, Gould
radio, Skinners Ales, Bookers, coastal crepes, ultra entertainment, beach sumo,
Cornwall hospice care, Cornwall blind, Precious lives, catch a wave and Speedy hire

and prizes where donated by Relentless, Etnies, Gul, Bodhis Resturant, Lusty Glaze,
tbsurfing.com, Skindog surfboards and indo board Europe.
Titan the robot stole the show and the locally run global business pulled all the
stops out with a great set in the middle of the harbour.
The whole event was streamed live across the world by Tiger24 with Anton Roberts
organizing the sound system and on line production with his team. Mayor Andy Hannan
said “It was a great event and with the on line streaming a real showcase for Newquay”.

get excited about this event and they all made a real effort in the 1km paddle”.
The event raised well over £2,000.00 with money still coming in which means this
years total is nearly £5000.00 and the overall total for the Joe Way appeal is £95,000.00

Bus drives for charity
Southwest
business continues to support the annual Joe Way Paddle for Life event which is
being held on the 15th of September at Newquay harbour.
A green Western Greyhound double decker bus will advertise the Joe Way appeal and
will be driving around its routes in Cornwall, bringing the Cornish toddlers story
to new people and advertising the annual Joe Way Paddle for Life Event.
Western Greyhound is a Newquay-based family-run business that has been operating
since 1998. It now runs an extensive bus network throughout Cornwall and into Devon,
offering services which frequently connect together to provide excellent journey
opportunities in the region.
Joe’s Dad Matt asked Mark Howarth MD from Western Greyhound if he would give the
£2000 worth of advertising space as a donation. The company has already supported
the late toddler’s story and Mark once again agreed to help.
Mark Howarth said, “We have worked with Hendra Holiday Park since we started our
business in 1998 and it was therefore a pleasure to become involved in Joe’s charity.
As our bus travels around Cornwall, I hope it will be an encouragement to others
to also support this worthwhile cause”
The artwork was designed by paddle media designer Scott Dickinson and one of the
main sponsors for the Paddle, Perranporth signs who has donated materials and fitted
the signage
Paul Hutchinson owner of Perranporth signs said “We have been touched by Joe’s story
and it’s great to be part of an event that raises money for 20 charities, you only
have to read or watch Joe’s story on the website and you want to get up do something
to help others”.
SUP world champion Kai Lenny and Legend Robby Naish support UK Paddle
'Joes Banner' has already travelled the equivalent
of seven times around the world clocking up 270,000 km. Team Joe are now looking
to get the figure up 400,000 km which is the equivalent of travelling from the earth
to the moon.
Kai Lenny, a true waterman, from the island of Maui, became a world champion this
December. He won the final event of the Stand Up World Tour at Honoli’i Beach Park
on the island of Hawaii. Kai’s dream became a reality with this contest; winning
each heat from beginning to end.
Kai took the banner on a visit to the UK to see Ben Skinner at his surfboard factory
where Ben handed over the Joe Way Paddle for life longboard which was donated by
his surfboard team
Robby Naish is one of the first athletes to have gained long-lasting international
fame in the sport of windsurfing.
As an international sports celebrity, Naish has been featured in numerous films,
videos, news reports, and articles. As of 2006, thirty years after his first World
Champion title, popular lines of sailboards, sails, and kitesurfing equipment are
marketed worldwide under the Naish name.
Joe’s small light weight banner has been taken under water, up mountains, out to
sea by surfers and strapped to Joe’s dad when he did a parachute jump.
Perranporth Signs who where a big sponsor of this year’s paddle have just donated
more banners which are ready to go global. If you are going away and would like
to take part in this challenge, please call Matt Way on 07761079454 to get your
