Past and Present Fund Raising
Fire fighter and banker raising money for Precious Lives running the Dublin Marathon
for Joe
Newquay runners broke their own personal records running the Dublin City Marathon
in memory of Joe Way.
More than 10,000 runners participated over recent years in the Adidas Dublin City
Marathon. The 42.2km (26.2 miles) race started at Baggot Street and finished in
Merrion Square West, both near the city centre.
The route passed through many of Dublin's most historic Georgian streets, with
Trinity College, Herbert Park, St Stephens Green and Phoenix Park among the highlights
of a mainly flat single-lap course.
Thousands of spectators lined the route to watch the race and cheer on the
runners. The winners received the Noel Carroll Memorial Trophy, while all those
that crossed the finish line received an engraved medal and a commemorative marathon
T-shirt.
After hearing about the Newquay toddler
who lost his fight against a rare genetic condition in May, fire fighter Lee Beresford
and banker Lee Gwilliam agreed to help Joe’s parents with their efforts to raise
money to build a children’s Hospice in Cornwall as well as promoting Joe’s website
which tells of his amazing story.
The lad’s times where Lee Beresford (left) 3hrs 48 min, overall position 2654 and
Lee Gwilliam (right) 3hrs 55 mins, overall position 3310. They enjoyed a well earned
Guinness after the race that night as both had given up the beer during training.
Lee Beresford raised an amazing £571.10 and Lee Gwilliam is still collecting his
donations so watch this space.
Lee a local fire fighter helped the Ways 6 years ago when he attended a fire at
Hendra which burnt down the supermarket and the Managers accommodation where the
Ways lived.
