Past and Present Fund Raising
£2500 raised in memory of Newquay boy Joe Way
A
wild night of magic, music and mayhem filled the new Tamarisk suit,
Port view room and the Watermark Brassiere with 150 guests at The
Glendorgal Hotel in Newquay last Friday night.
The line up included signed bands and acts from AMG Records including
a local Newquay pop-punk band “Charlie”, “Electroesque”, “Live
Vocalists”, “Arkangels”, “Auction for the Promise Club” and “Black
Cherry” who have a strong burlesque theme.
The night also saw Dr Alan Jones performing his magic of the mind
along with a casino run by Newquay (Towan Blystra) Lions and
additional table magic with Alan. The night was compared by
Cornwall’s leading compare Dean Woods and had Jonathon and Bradley
Start from Start&co, taking the auction through its paces.
Guests braved the stormy weather to enjoy an action packed night
organised by Cornwall DMC, The Glendorgal Hotel, AMG records,
Soundworks and the parents of Joe Way who died last May.
Matt Way gave a short speech before the Auction about Joe’s story
which has continued to inspire people from across the globe over the
last 10 months.
Matt said “Our amazing little boy’s story has raised over £41,500.00
in 10 months since the website was launched in June last year by
Cornish company IT-OK and Joes parents, the website has had over
80,000 hits including every country in the world, a facebook group of
over 2000 members and is also supporting Steven Johnsons Syndrome
suffers in South Africa and Pakistan”.
The new total with this event is now an amazing £44,000.00
Joe’s parents are involved at the moment with flying a four year old
boy from Pakistan co-ordinated by an SJS support group in Canada, and
two other SJS connections in the UK.
Claire Way said “the night was great fun and had a lot of local
support, to raise £2500 in one night and see so many people enjoy
themselves was what the event was all about, we cannot thank everyone
involved enough”
Hendra Holiday Park raises over £5000

Joe was the little boy that touched many hearts, and the son of
Hendra’s Holiday Park Manager Matt Way. Hendra Holiday Park, where the
Way family live and work, has been raising money in all sorts of ways
from pedal power to raffles and games nights. The Hendra appeal has
been fundraising for the children’s hospice to be built in Cornwall so
that children like Joe - and their families – have somewhere to go for
respite and support.
The Hendra bikeathon - which helped towards a fundraising total of more
than £5,000 for the Precious Lives Appeal - saw nearly twenty cyclists
pedal their way around the Camel Trail. Adults and children alike
completed the Wadebridge to Padstow circuit in memory of little Joe
Way. Many thanks to all the colleagues, friends and family who
sponsored the riders and to Sophie Burgess who organized the whole
event in aid of Hendra’s nominated charity.
The Park staff and owners then organised raffles, games, fun nights and
other events to raise money and inform locals as well as holiday makers
of this special cause for Cornwall.
Joe’s mum, Claire Way says the response has been amazing,
“We have lived on the Park and all the staff and owners supported us
and raised money when Joe was alive and have been a great support after
he died. It was a very difficult time for us all but as always with
Joe, a very positive reaction has transpired”
Janine Hyatt Director of Hendra who also looked after Joe when his
brother Finn was born said,
“Hendra is delighted to be involved with such a worthwhile cause. In
Joe’s short life he had a huge impact on everyone who knew him and now
its great to see the amazing difference the money raised in his name
will make to other children’s lives. “
Live Music Fundraiser - Three gigs raise £1080.00
John Davis and Martin Everett are in their second year studying FDA
Popular Music at Truro College in Cornwall.
One of their modules, entitled ‘Band Studies’, involves staging a series
of performances combining a common theme, marks are then awarded on their
organisational skills along with the performances as a whole.
Martin and John first heard about Joe Way when Bernie Morcom, a paediatric
nurse at Treliske hospital, visited the school that John’s children attend
to talk about the Precious Lives Appeal. After hearing the story of Joe
they approached his father Matt with the idea of linking the ‘Band
Studies’ module with a fundraising event in aid of Joe Way and the
Precious Lives Appeal.
When asked why, Martin said, “The reason for all this is simple, we want
to raise awareness and funds for the Precious Lives Appeal, we desperately
need a children’s hospice in Cornwall and the more people that know about
the project the better. Oh, and we may actually get some college work
done.”
Matt (Joe’s Dad) said “everyone worked very hard and had such a great time
we cannot thank the bands, public and of course John and Martin enough.
Well done”.
Each night had music from The Modern Jam, Hush With Your A’s and The Gypsy
Pinks plus other Guests
