Glitz, Glitz, The Ballroom Blitz raises money for Precious Lives appeal

Another fantastic funding raising event took place at The Green Lawns Hotel, Falmouth on Friday 20th March raising approximately £1300 for the Children’s Hospice South West.

Slimming World members from Falmouth, Camborne, Redruth, Mount Hawke, Truro and the Joe Way Appeal family and supporters had a fantastic Charity Ball to raise money towards the Children’s Hospice South West Appeal adding to the £1200 already raised in October by holding a Charity Fashion Show.

Many of our members when they have lost weight like to dress up and enjoy themselves! So far in the last 6 months we have raised £2500 along side the Joy Way Appeal and we have not finished yet as this ball to become an annual event!”

Various Donations which have come in off line

Windsor court retirement home donated £100 from their Christmas raffle to Joe’s site after seeing Joe’s banner in Newquay.

Jean Gordon (Manager at Windsor court) said “We saw the sponsors Start & co on the banner so contacted them who gave me Matt’s (Joe’s Dad) phone number”.

Matt said “It was another day when you feel a bit low and then you get a call from someone you have never met inspired by Joe and ready to give money to the hospice, its so up lifting”

Valerie West from St Ives celebrated her 60th birthday by asking friends and relatives to give donations for a charity instead of presents. Valerie’s husband who drives National Express bus from Newquay passed Joe’s 10ft x 3ft banner at the Quintrel downs roundabout for months and they both looked at Joe’s website.

After contacting Matt (Joe’s Dad) they dropped off the cheques and had good chat with Matt about how touched they where about Joe’s story.

Mike and Sue Martin donated £100 after looking at Joe’s website. Mike has worked with Matt on various projects at Hendra and called over to hand over the cheque as well as looking at improving some disabled caravans for the company.

Students help raise money for Joe Way appeal and Surfers Against Sewage

Students help raise money for Joe WaySurf Science and Technology Foundation Degree students at Cornwall College Newquay have raised £300 for the Joe Way Precious Lives appeal and £300 for Surfers Against Sewage, by organising their own surf competition.

Matt Way, Joe’s father said: “We are really grateful to the students for donating the money to this appeal. This sort of activity raises the awareness of Joe’s story and it’s fantastic that people can have fun while raising the money.”

Brender Willmott, Surf Science and Technology Programme Manager said: “The students organised this competition as part of their event management module and they did a fantastic job. They organised everything from conception to completion including which charities should receive all the proceeds.”

Pierre Tallon- Quere, student on the course, said: “The competition was a huge success and we are really pleased to be able to hand over cheques to such worthwhile causes.”

Bath half marathon raises money for Precious Lives appealThe Bath Half Marathon on Sunday March 15th Was sold out with 15,000 entries. A record 11,000 finished the race in conditions hotter than in Greece, and 180 people were treated for heat exhaustion by the St Johns Ambulance.

The Bath half Marathon is the fourth largest race in the country and the fastest half marathon, owing to the flatness of the course.

Record crowds lined the historic streets of Bath to support the runners. There were live bands and even a group of students playing drums in there garden.

Last year Ben had to pull out of the Indian Queens half marathon at the last minute due to injury and since then he has recovered and trained for the Bath Half Marathon with his girlfriend Jacky who is an experienced runner and ran the Indian Queens half marathon last year for the Precious Lives Appeal.

This year in the Bath half marathon Jacky beat her personal best and Ben ran a fast time of 1 hour 39 minutes and raised £125 for Precious Lives.

All the proceeds will also go to Precious Lives Appeal in memory of Joe.
