Past and Present Fund Raising
Truro Slimming World has raised £802
Their first fund raising event was an open morning where they held raffles. Then
the held a bring and buy sale of all their clothes that no longer fitted them
and also did a car boot sale of any items that were left, the money they won in
the Truro carnival was donated and lastly on slimming worlds 40th anniversary
they held a red party where all members paid a pound to wear red and held
raffles.
On top of all this they still managed to lose an amazing 4366.5 pounds
this year which is equivalent to 2 shire horses or the van they are pictured
with.
It is a Nissan NV 2000 which is the biggest van in its class and has been
launched this week and was supplied by Town and Country Motors in Truro.
Cherylyn Howard from Slimming world said “Losing weight has never been easier if
you follow the new extra easy plan with its flexibility and free food combined
as well as getting more active”.
Matt Way Joe’s Dad said “Slimming world have donated nearly £3500.00 of the £57,000.00
raised since we started the website a year and a half ago, they have had some great events and
it was great fun talking to the Truro group about Joe and the amazing progress that the hospice appeal is making as well as Joe’s website”.
Santas Run...
Rebecca Dee from Bristol whose daughter Hanna who is now 5 has Angelmans
syndrome continues to support the Precious Lives appeal in memory of Cornish
toddler Joe Way who also was born with Angelmans and died from complications due
to Steven Johnson syndrome in May 2008.
In the glorious winter sunshine, Beckie and her son 8 year old Sam Dee along
with 300 other enthusiastic entrants turned heads as they ran through Bristol
City Centre. The men, women, and children were taking part in Santa's on the Run
to raise money for Children's Hospice South West.
Together they ran 2km from the Lloyds Amphitheatre, through Millennium Square,
past the watershed to the Centre, back down the waterfront, over Pero's Bridge
and back again. Money raised through the event will help Children's Hospice
South West (CHSW) to support the families of children with life-limiting
conditions and illnesses.
Rebecca said “Joe Way touched our hearts, not only did he have Angelmans, the
same as our daughter Hannah, but he was a truly, wonderful, inspirational little
boy, you've only got to look at the pictures of his gorgeous smile to see that.
Sam and I ran the 2km fun run in memory of Joe, raising £141. Raising money for
CHSW is our way, as a family, to show that Joe will never been forgotten and his
legacy lives on"
Pirate Night
Another good night was organised by the summer bounce team who raised £100 for
Precious Lives in memory of Joe. The first event for Joe raised £164 and the
pirate night was great fun.
The evening saw Caribbean food on offer and music from a host of performers as
well as fun for the kids who dressed up. Cynthia one of the organisers said
“thank you to all of you who came and helped us have a great night and raise
more money for charity”
Claire Way who went along with the rest of the family said “it was a great
night, the kids loved playing the instruments and as always the summer bounce
team came up with another great night”.
Holiday maker raises £500
Kelly Nunn 31 from Birmingham is a regular at Hendra and knew Joe and Matt
(Joe’s Dad) who is Hendra’s Park Manager, she is training to be a Paediatric
nurse and wanted to do more than keep putting the family’s loose change in a
collecting pot.
Kelly decided to take the brave step of getting her head shaved
to raise money for the Cornish charity in memory of Joe. Kelly said “he was such
a brave boy and his various conditions made him unique although I have very long
black hair having it all shaved off seemed like a small price to pay to help the
hospice appeal raise money”.
Kelly went on stage at Hendra in front of 600
people where she had her head shaved by the entertainment crew in front of other
guests.
Shopping bags raise money for charity
The Cost cutters on Hendra holiday Park piloted a scheme this season to
encourage holiday makers not to use plastic bags by charging 5p per bag.
Matt Way Park Manager said “This has been a win win situation although it has not
stopped guests using plastic bags overall a huge reduction has been made and
it’s clearly highlighted that this is an issue we are passionate about. The up
side of those who did still use plastic bags is that JJ Wilson who operates the
Hendra supermarket and other stores around the country has donated over £500 to
the Precious Lives appeal in Joe’s memory”.
Joes website has even had backing
from David Bellamy for telling his story and raising funds with green
initiatives Scott Lloyd one of the Directors from JJ Wilson said “Although we
where concerned about customers reactions to start with its been such a success
at Hendra we will run this scheme at all our shops in the UK next season, we
where happy to pass the money over to the Precious Lives appeal one of many
charities we support”.
J&J Wilson also donated a custom surf board when the Way
family with Hendra’s help started to raise money in memory of the Newquay
toddler.
