Precious Lives message spreads to Peru!

Peru doing their bit for Precious LivesJoe Way has already touched people’s lives around Cornwall, the UK, and beyond, and has now reached out to children in Peru thanks to a recent Earth Sessions / WAVES for Development expedition.

Joe is the inspirational little boy who passed away in May. His website, www.joeway.co.uk, has been set up to tell his story, raise awareness of his conditions, and help raise vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal to build a children’s hospice in Cornwall. Joe’s message has been seen on posters, t-shirts, banners and even boats since the launch of the website at the beginning of June and now it has spread to surf boards in Peru!

The Joe Way surfboard stickers were taken to the South American country by Earth Sessions Founder Brendan McDonald as part of a recent Earth Sessions and WAVES for Development educational surf and adventure volunteer program in Lobitos, Northern Peru. Forty-two local youths participated in the program, which included language and arts, earth connection and entrepreneurship, and swimming and surfing. The youngsters also learnt about Joe Way.

Brendan McDonald, Founder of Earth Sessions says:
“Two huge Joe Way stickers were taken to Peru and attached to boards used for surf lessons. The youth of Lobitos were told the Joe Way story, and they responded by fighting over the use of the Joe Way boards!”

The surfboard stickers show Joe’s smiling face alongside his website address and the Precious Lives Appeal logo. Displaying Joe’s message on surfboards is particularly fitting for the Newquay boy who loved the sea.

Joe’s dad Matt says:
“Although we are grieving for Joe the positive support we have had getting his story out to so many people has been amazing. The website is there to inspire other families and provide information on the conditions Joe had. The fundraising side has been a way for people to express the admiration for Joe by donating to a fantastic cause which is really needed.”

Fire fighter and banker run Dublin Marathon

Fire fighter and banker run Dublin MarathonNewquay runners are hoping to break records next month when they set out to run the Dublin City Marathon in memory of Joe Way.

More than 10,000 runners have participated over recent years in the Adidas Dublin City Marathon. The 42.2km (26.2 miles) race starts at Baggot Street and finishes in Merrion Square West, both near the city centre.

The route passes through many of Dublin's most historic Georgian streets, with Trinity College, Herbert Park, St Stephens Green and Phoenix Park among the highlights of a mainly flat single-lap course.

Thousands of spectators line the route to watch the race and cheer on the runners. The winners receive the Noel Carroll Memorial Trophy, while all those that cross the finish line get an engraved medal and a commemorative marathon T-shirt. The day before the marathon an International Breakfast race is run to welcome overseas athletes with traditional Irish music

After hearing about the Newquay toddler who lost his fight against a rare genetic condition in May, firefighter Lee Beresford and banker Lee Gwilliam agreed to help Joe’s parents with their efforts to raise money to build a children’s
hospice in Cornwall as well as promoting Joe’s website which tells of his amazing story.

Best mates Lee and Lee, both aged 26,are aiming for a time of around three hour and 45 minutes, which would be firefighter Lee’s personal best having recently completed the London marathon in three hours and 54 mins.

Way Hay...Hair Dressers cut hair for Joe Way

Way Hay...Hair Dressers cut hair for Joe WayA HAIR salon with a namesake connection to a local charity is gearing up for a whole day of fund-raising, and is encouraging the public to get involved.
The Way Hair salon in Chester Road has decided to dedicate an entire day of hair cutting to the Joe Way Appeal with their “Joe Way Hair Day” – helping raise money to build a Cornish children's hospice.
While there is no family connection, the staff at the salon thought the name match was enough for them to get involved.

Gillian Bray, a stylist at the salon, said: "We like to organise fund-raiser events at least every other year and feel the Joe Way charity is very worthy, and also very close to our hearts. All of the staff here are happy to donate their time and expertise for the event – effectively working for free for the whole day."
They are now set to hold a special day on Monday, September 22 where the proceeds from an entire day of haircuts at the salon will be donated directly to the Joe Way fund. The idea is that we get in as many customers as possible on the day so all our appointments are fully booked," said Gillian.

The Way Hay Crew"We will be charging people normal prices, but all that money will go to charity. If anyone wants to pay a bit extra, that's fine – it will all add to what we give to the appeal. We're hoping to raise hundreds of pounds."

Customers are now being encouraged to book in advance for September 22 to avoid disappointment, and so they can get a stylish haircut while giving to charity at the same time. Those wanting to make bookings should call the salon on 01637 875809.
Claire Joe’s mum said “Its so kind of the staff to give their time as they have given up their wages for that day and again its getting Joe’s story to new people in a fun way”

Book pledge for Joe Way to raise money for Precise Lives

Book Pledge for Joe WayTracey Nesbitt owner and operator of Nurture Nursery would like to invite you to make a small donation to buy a book or books on behalf and in memory of Joe Way for the Precious Life’s Appeal to increase their reading resources for children in the local area.

We are aiming to collect £1000 in donation for the books, and Usborne will then generously provide an additional £600 worth of free books on top of this. All businesses supporting us will receive acknowledgement in a book of their choice by inserting a business logo by the means of a sticker or company logo/business card, along with Joe’s sticker.

The local co-ordinator of this scheme for Usborne is Tracey Nesbitt, who is an Independent Usborne Schools Representative and owner of Nurture Day Nursery and Pre School. Nurture Day recently raised £530 on behalf of Joe, and hope to raise more through the book pledge.

We do hope you will take part in this scheme, which will help raise the literacy standards for many children in our community’s next business generation. All books donated will be shared by Joe’s parents amongst local organisations who care for children and who helped make a difference in Joe’s life and continue to do so for many other children.
